The Hawaii Pacific Export Council, (DEC) is your
organization of local leaders, whose
knowledge of international business, export

of experience and mentor to businesses
seeking to expand into international markets in the Asia-Pacific
area.

We work with the local US Commercial
Service Offices as follows:

- mentor local businesses
- identify export financing sources
- sponsor programs to create export
awareness in the local community
- identify issues that impact export trade
- promote programs and services of the U.S.
Export Assistance Offices
- encourage international trade education
- build local export assistance partnerships
- work through organizations such as
SCORE and the SBA

There are 56 councils in the US with over 1800
volunteers representing business, universities,
and government. Council members have a
wealth of knowledge of international business
and trade with access to specialized information
resources. Members, appointed by the U.S.
Secretary of Commerce,  provide an important
source of professional experience and advice
that complements the counseling and
assistance provided by US Department of
Commerce Trade Specialists.

Activities of individual DEC's are tailored to
address community needs. DEC's establish
committees for specific international trade
topics and priority objectives of local business
and the commerce Department. New ideas and
initiatives that work well for a DEC are shared
with other DEC's either on a regional basis or
through the National Chairperson’s Council.
They also include establishing speakers
bureaus and speakers kits, conducting export
seminars and workshops, organizing export
promotion programs on a regional basis,
sponsoring Trade Missions or hosting
international buyers delegations.

DEC's mission is to assist American firms to
export. The nationwide network of DEC’s have
significantly contributed to expanding US
exports.
